🧰 Description Overview
This 1957 BMW Isetta 300 is a beautifully restored example of the iconic “bubble car,” freshly completed by its owner of three years following an extensive cosmetic and mechanical restoration. Powered by a rebuilt 298cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine paired with a fully reconditioned 4-speed manual gearbox, this Isetta has been returned to its original Red and White exterior over a Creme and Tan interior.
The restoration included a complete disassembly, with the chassis media-blasted and refinished, all mechanicals rebuilt, and the interior professionally reupholstered by marque expert David Raab. Engine work was carried out by noted Isetta specialist John Wentzel, while the Dynastart unit was rebuilt by Bill Rogers. The car has seen minimal mileage—approximately 1,000 kilometers—since completion and remains both mechanically sound and visually striking.
The glossy Red and White finish presents beautifully, complemented by refinished chrome and aluminum trim, and a factory-style luggage rack with a period-correct wicker case at the rear. New rubber seals and gaskets were installed throughout to ensure longevity and finish quality. The Isetta’s distinctive front-entry door, wraparound windows, and compact shape stand out as hallmarks of its unmistakable design.
Inside, the fully restored Creme and Tan interior includes new upholstery, reconditioned side panels, and a fresh carpeted floor mat. The cabin also benefits from Dynamat insulation and a new wiring harness, improving both comfort and reliability. The speedometer features an OEM replacement cable, and all controls operate as intended, showing the precision and detail invested in this restoration.
Originally developed by ISO SpA of Italy and later licensed to BMW, the Isetta became an icon of postwar European motoring. Starting in 1956, the displacement increased to 298cc, improving drivability and performance. This example benefits from that upgrade and now shows approximately 11,000 km on the odometer, with only 1,000 km since its meticulous restoration.
